Antelope Island

Joey and I took the kids out to Antelope Island while Michelle was at her overnight Crop. It was the windiest day ever in the valley - you couldn't even see the sky. Once we got to the island, however, the air was clean (still windy though). Looking back at the valley, you could see the billowing sand storm we managed to escape. One of the park rangers was nice enough to drive us on his golf cart right into the buffalo herd. Although a little uneasy having all the kids relying on a small cart as their only defense, it was amazing to get right next to these big males. We'll be printing this one up. This one bird was as curious about us as we were about him. He was flying into the wind so he seemed to stall right next to me.

Ice Flow at Deer Creek Reservoir

After a long morning of fishing, Joey and I were thankful that we made it through the ice passage before the wind kicked up and shifted the ice sheet our direction, closing the passage to the open water and making the boat ramp useless. A while later, the wind and ice shifted again, opening a narrow channel for the poor guy stuck in the canoe to paddle back instead of carrying his boat and gear.

The eagles had more luck with the fish than we did, but the loons easily caught the most fish. We'll try back soon - once the fish start feeding they go nuts and it makes for a fun day of fishing. The Eagle above is a juvenile bald eagle and hasn't lost his dark head feathers. He / she didn't catch any fish while we were there - maybe still learning??

Donut Date 2008

Amber, Megan and I enjoyed eating donuts and reading books at Donut Date at their school. Unfortunately, Jenna had to be sick so Michelle had to stay home so I didn't have to bring Jenna and Andrew.
